Description
Yin He Dance presents traditional and contemporary Chinese dance. The company bridges east and west, past and present via repertory works passed down by master teachers as well as new works, especially those by members of the Chinese diaspora. The company is available to lead classes and residencies in Chinese folk or classical dance for students of all ages and ability levels. We also offer performance programs. Through our "Dance to China!" program (45 - 60 minutes), which introduces dances from Chinaʼs different regions and ethnic enclaves, audiences can see first-hand how dance transcends linguistic and cultural boundaries as a means of expression. The company is also available to perform dance concerts featuring original work by modern Chinese choreographers. Please contact us for information about our latest production.

History
Founded in 2015, Yin He Dance presents classical, traditional, and contemporary Chinese dance. Each year, we produce two dance concerts - one at the beginning of the year which features folkloric dance in celebration of the Lunar New Year and one in the fall which highlights contemporary and classical works. Yin He Dance also performs throughout the year at various local celebrations such as the citywide Chinese New Year event at Navy Pier, Chinatown Moon Festival celebration, and the Chicago SummerDance Celebration.
Artistic Vision
Yin He Dance presents traditional and contemporary Chinese dance. The company bridges east and west, past and present via repertory works passed down by master teachers as well as new works, especially those by members of the Chinese diaspora. Our goal is to share Chinese dance in a way that honors those who have come before while keeping our art relevant for modern audiences.
Programs for Specific Audience(s) Expertise
Our "Dance to China!" production is designed for families and can be tailored to audiences of any age. We have experience performing the show for kids as young as pre-school age. In the production, a narrator introduces each dance piece and leads the audience on an educational journey where they learn about Chinese culture and language and how dance is used in different cultures.
Traditional Folk/Ethnic Artform Statement
Our art form is Chinese dance which includes folk and classical dance styles. We regularly perform folkloric style dances at various local festivals. The dances we perform often depict what daily life was like for Chinese people throughout history and are sometimes used to pass down myths and legends from the past. We are happy to carry on the dance traditions of our ancestors and keep the practice alive for future generations.
