Description
Victor Garcia and his ensemble present the music of many Latin American countries, where the arrival of the African drums and rhythms have had the opportunity to influence, intertwine with and innovate the musical traditions of each region.
Work Sample
This is a live rendition of an original composition of mine, entitled "Farewell, My Love" which has performed and recorded by my organ septet. Although a medium sized group, it can go down to a duo.
This is the melody of a composition of mine "Home With You" that we have yet to record with my new Latin jazz ensemble. Due to the nature of the music, the smallest in this group can be as a quartet.
The first work sample was intended to display my prowess as a composer and arranger, aside from my performing abilities. The second is precisely a tune that I have used to educate people on the significance of clave "” and will be part of my future recording!
History
In addition to be a freelance trumpet player in Chicago spanning all genres, I have lead and co-led various musical projects throughout the years, ranging from Jazz to Blues to Afro-Cuban to pop and beyond.
Artistic Vision
I have a real desire to present music that has come from Africa through the lens of Latin America to a much wider audience. In addition, I love to promote not only the joy that this music brings to the listener, but to educate students of all ages about the importance of this musical and cultural diaspora through workshops and educational performances.
Programs for Specific Audience(s) Expertise
I present concerts under the name "The Evolution of the African Drum in the Americas", in which I take Kindergarten through college audiences on a tour of the different countries in Latin America.
