Description
North Shore Opera Hour is an organization established in 2006 based on the exciting Firestone Opera Hour of the 1940's and 50's. Our performances include narration and interactive moments with you, the audience, all within a non-boring hour's time! If you know of a private home, bar, coffee shop, art gallery, church or other space anywhere in the Chicago area that would be interested in hosting us, please let us know. Programs tailor-made just for you. We will work within your budget.
Our goal is to: Enrich, Educate and Entertain!
Work Sample
Our performance in this restaurant space is a regular show that highlights multicultural music from Peru to Pavarotti, as we call it. NSOH is able to present from various genres with a special attention to keeping things light and fun. Never a dull moment. Our usual shows run just about an hour because that keeps our audiences attentive and happy to hear and join in our selections. This show was presented just this last February with the Founder and Executive Director and members of our board. This time we had an invited young artist to present as part of our show. That is part of our mission, to support up and coming artists from the Chicagoland area.
We have been performing in various venues like homes and restaurants to prove that less is more in many cases and having a more personal connection to the audience makes for a better experience overall.
History
We have been a non-profit since 2006 and have been able to support Chicagoland artists by having them as part of our themed shows, restaurant shows and as part of concerts and recitals.
Artistic Vision
Our view is that we want to bring music to various venues in a more relaxed and fun atmosphere away from the usual stiffness of what is known as classical music. We incorporate narration and dialogue and keep our shows at about an hour, so people are able to enjoy the performance better. Other companies can do more elaborate staging and sets, but we emphasize the beauty of the interpretative voice.
Programs for Specific Audience(s) Expertise
I am the Founder and Executive Director and have been not only a seasoned performer of vocal music, but I am also a music director for a church with many years of experience. I have also been a teacher and with this knowledge I want to help audiences learn more about the history and stories behind the music we present. Our shows are not just entertainment but learning tools as wells.
Traditional Folk/Ethnic Artform Statement
I am Peruvian born and have always fought for equal representation in my field. We are at a critical time for many minority groups. Now is the time to realized that brown and black, gay or straight, young and old, we must work together. You must see a person that looks and acts like you doing the very thing you want to do in order to visualize yourself in that position. That is most important if you ever want to attain your goal. We need more people of color in all societal positions of influence.
