"GIVE 'EM HELL, HARRY!", by Samuel Gallu, is a faithful and often humorous portrayal of President Harry S. Truman's life and presidency.  It spans his childhood, his "political apprenticeship" as a judge in Jackson County, MO, his years in the U. S. Senate and his momentous two terms as President.  Actor James Whitmore originated the role in 1975.  Clifton Truman Daniel took up the mantle in October 2017, marking the first time in history a U. S. President would be portrayed onstage by a direct descendant...in this case, his oldest grandson!

"GIVE 'EM HELL, HARRY!" can be described as the very pleasant circumstance for a grandson to pay homage to a special man, who happened to be President during very challenging times.  You might say it is the "icing on the cake" to complement his many activities with the Truman Library Institute & Scholarship Foundation, his other acting projects and his writing career, both as a newspaper reporter and author.

History

Clifton Truman Daniel is the oldest grandson of President Harry S. Truman and his wife, Bess.  He is the son of author Margaret Truman and former NY Times Managing Editor E. Clifton Daniel, Jr. In addition to appearing in plays and television, he is the author of "Growing Up with my Grandfather: Memories of Harry S. Truman" and "Dear Harry, Love, Bess:  Bess Truman's Letters to Harry Truman - 1919-1943.  He is thrilled to play his grandfather and especially enjoys the Q&A with the audience after each show.  He also offers a series of lectures on various aspects of the Truman Presidency, as well as U. S. and White House history.

Artistic Vision

Mr. Daniel shares a very personal, but extremely important, era in history and believes the artistry of Samuel Gallu inspires all ages to learn and apply historical happenings to today's challenging times.
