Description
Christine Steyer is a multi-award-winning soprano who delights audiences of all ages and demographics with unique concerts celebrating the uniqueness of the unamplified human voice. Programs include age appropriate in-classroom concerts for ages K-12 (puppet component added for younger ages and lyric-writing component for older ages); and concerts catered towards adults presenting a mixture of classical repertoire, new repertoire and the American Songbook (upon request). All programs include repertoire celebrating women and BIPOC composers/lyricists. All programs use a professional accompanist.Work Sample
My sample demonstrates my ability to connect with audiences. Two of them are recent virtual performances due to the pandemic restrictions. The other is live.
"The Days of Wine and Roses", Johnny Mercer/Henry Mancini arrangement by Beckie Menzie performed by Christine Steyer at the Skokie Theater in 2015. Steyer received the 2011 Johnny Mercer Award at The American Traditions Competition with this song.
Steyer sings the aria entitled "Amazonia from Above" from the multi-award-winning online opera "ON CALL: COVID-19" honoring global healthcare workers. Steyer wrote the libretto and premiered this role of the Rio de Janeiro Healthcare Worker in April, 2021.
Christine Steyer performs with Huckleberry for an online family holiday show during the pandemic. Steyer has an array of puppets that she brings brings to join her on stage–introducing young people to music and opera. She often invites audience members to participate on concerts with fun trivia and sing-alongs.
History
I have sung with the Lyric Opera of Chicago for 12 seasons. I have a BA and an MA in Vocal Performance. I have recorded professionally and sung with some of the leading orchestras an opera houses in the world. Additionally, I break barriers by presenting new repertoire with themes that resonate with today's audiences. I constantly bridge the gap between traditional music and new music to excite and delight audiences of all ages and demographics.Artistic Vision
My passion is to present unique concerts that showcase the unaccompanied human voice. I love to show the beauty and power and uniqueness of the human voice and its potential for expression. My programs occasionally have serious content, but they are designed to be interactive with the audience. They are uniquely catered to the identified audience. Additionally, all of my programs include a professional accompanist. We love breaking the fourth wall.
Programs for Specific Audience(s) Expertise
1). I have unique programs for ages K-12. This includes a mix of singing appropriate repertoire and engaging students for a portion of that time to write the lyrics to their own song. If appropriate, I can also bring in puppets and/or have the students sing along on parts of the program. 2). I have a program catered towards adults that brings in a mixture of classical repertoire and the American songbook that older audiences are familiar with.
