History
Founded in 2014, Chicago Fringe Opera is dedicated to presenting innovative vocal works with an emphasis on new and contemporary styles, engaging with the Chicago community through intimate and immersive performance experiences, and fostering and empowering local artists.
Artistic Vision
THE ROSINA PROJECT is a contemporary adaptation of Rossini’s 19th-century comedy The Barber of Seville, remixed by hip-hop and opera artists who perform an original, female-driven story of empowerment as an immersive, 21st-century house party.
ROSINA inspires opera fans and hip-hop heads alike to experience one of opera’s best-known works in a kinesthetic and celebratory way, with dancing audience members forming a cypher around the performers. ROSINA breaks down multiple barriers and takes the genre of hip-hopera to the next level.
