Description
Blues harmonica and piano, Indian Tabla, String Quartet, and often guests artists. Chamber Blues is not a string quartet backing a blues player, and its not a "blend" of genres but a juxtaposition where the character of each genre remains in tact and fully involved. Though it certainly has a cultural "crossover" aspect, a blues guys and a string quartet, the main experience is in the compositions, and therefore I call it "crossunder" music. 🙂
Work Sample
Angel Food Cake - 5:28 - composed and arranged by C. Siegel - A composition that juxtaposes blues and classical in more of a call and response fashion.
Opus 17 - Complementary Colors - 5:16 - Composition by C. Siegel - Blues and Classical together.
Opus 16 - Slow Blues - 9:39 - composition by C. Siegel - A slow blues development in a classical context.
Each piece offers a different aspect of the juxtaposition of blues and classical - the possibilities are infinite. With each composition I try to offer something different so our repertoire is quite diverse. Understand, I run with this because it is such an ecstatic experience composing and performing in this realm and understanding how music (pretty much on its own) brings people together in joy.
History
55 years of juxtaposing blues and classical with string quartet and also symphony orchestra.
Artistic Vision
I'm learning how to be an artist by expressing what is in there and just letting it come out. I'm learning how to let music to do what it does best; Unify, heal, uplift. I've come to realize that music is itself a form of compassion. Armed with music we will help calm the turmoil that is part of life on this earth and cover it with joy. - Corky Siegel
Programs for Specific Audience(s) Expertise
I've been doing workshops on expression in music since 1973 and I've written a book on the process. So musicians and teachers should really experience this. It's nothing like they will experience anywhere else (as I have been finding out over the years) LOL!
